Munich, 1998:
In the
Nomia-bar, where Japanese emmigrants meet Bavarian traditions, the
collaboration of Tokyo native artist/singer CaMi Tokujiro and Austrian
producer/musician Hans Platzgumer sets off.
Platzgumer who found international fame with his New York-based
rockband HP Zinker (Matador, Thrill Jockey) and his various European
electronic projects (Cube&Sphere, Aura Anthropica, Fingerfood on
labels such as Disko B, Cheap, Domino, L'Age D'Or) is fascinated
of Tokujiro's guttural voice and classy appearance.
Together with Viennese electronic pioneer Gerhard Potuznik they
produce the first tracks. Combining a relentless sense for raw breakbeats
and elaborate electronica with Tokujiro's poppy melodies and mysterious
lyrics, a new mixture of East Asian-European pop music is created,
using drum&bass elements as well as dark wave influences. Digital
Austrian melancholy being inspired by Japanese clarity. The first
ep 'Ai To Kakumei' is now released on Disko B's offspring 'The Seperator
Series', home of innovative ambient and breakbeat. The album 'Liberal
Bullshit' is about to follow this summer. On their live appearances
in Europe and Japan this year SHINTO will perform in 3-D suits with
a terrarium of crickets.
