The munich-based
electronic music label Disko B was founded in 1991 by Peter Wacha
aka Upstart as "dance-department" of his independent label
Sub Up Records (releasing among others the German cult pop / punkbands
FSK, Die Goldenen Zitronen, Merricks) which was already in existence
since 1985. The original name of the label was "disko bombs",
targeted towards a bombardement of the disco mainstream with progressiv
electronic music sounds. The first release of the New York based
SILICON SOUL (db 1) entered the German dance charts at the first
go.
After one Ragga and one Rave 12", KOTAI's "Susi's Daydream" (db 4) was the first "pure" techno release on Disko B in 1991. The same year Upstart, Dorothea Zenker, David Süss and Cpt. Reality started the legendary Ultraworld parties (which lead to the worldwide respected ULTRASCHALL club which is still existing). With releases of producers like DJ HELL, RICHARD BARTZ aka ACID SCOUT, ROBERT GÖRL or DJ GOOD GROOVE Disko B established itself as one of the most profiled techno / electronic music labels worldwide. The Vienna / Munich connection with Cheap Records lead to the release of the scandalous "Porno" album by PATRICK PULSINGER (db35) and SUSANNE BROKESCH's experimental ambient milestone "Sharing The Sunhat" (db60) and Disko B's image between dancefloor-straightness and experimental electronica deepened during the mid-ninetees.
Disko B's international artist roster with artists like I-F, JAY DENHAM, BLAKE BAXTER, THE RANCHO RELAXO ALLSTARS, UNIT MOEBIUS, HELL, ARTIST UNKNOWN or ABE DUQUE aka KIRLIAN spread the sound of the Disko B family around the world.
Disko B has been able to continue an output of high quality electronic music over the years. The recent albums of DAKAR & GRINSER (Berlin), SILICON SOUL (New York), CREME DE MENTHE (Glasgow), ELECTRONICAT (Paris), NEULANDER (New York) and MYSTERYMEN (Newcastle) reassured Disko B's importance during the last years. In 2005 Disko B signed the Band STEREO TOTAL from Berlin and thereby clearly (re-)opened the labelsound in direction of punk and alternative. 2006 brought a new 12" and a CD compilation of the "Dogmatic Sequences" Series by PATRICK PULSINGER and two ambient albums by the latest Disko B signing CONSOLE from the city of Weilheim. 2007 will kick off with new releases by ELECTRONICAT, GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU / ACID PAULI and the famous bavarian brothers GEBRÜDER TEICHMANN.
