Munich based trio Suchtrupp revitalize the experimental/ambient
line of Disko B that already
brought us the adventureous sounds of Susanne Brokesch, The Rancho
Relaxo Allstars, Cube & Sphere and Albrecht Kunze. Suchtrupp – consisting
of Alexander Gutsch, Sabine Gödel and Jens Former - started out
in 1996 to combine their knowledge of classical minimal music with
current new electronica
.
They are the founders of the ”Ambient Lab” events in munichs legendary
Ultraschall club where they confronted ravers with improvised sessions
including electronic equipment as well as guitars and of course
the violin of professional orchester musician Sabine Gödel which
also plays an important part on Suchtrupp’s debut album.
The music on ”Heile Welt” was produced in two sessions with Chicks
On Speed producer Tobias Neumann.
The musical
spectrum reaches from warm analog melodic tracks in the tradition
of Kreidler/To Rococo Rot (”Herzschlag” and ”Mimikry”) to ambient
experiments which echo Suchtrupp’s minimal music experiences. Tracks
like the almost 10 minutes long ”Seifenblasen” or the 15 minutes
”Dr. Kern” (a tribute to their illegal and freestylish friday night
electronic music club in munich) are slowly evolving hypnotic journeys
that show Suchtrupp spaced out and atmospheric without compromises
whereas on ”Impulsdimensionen” we hear an unawaited expansion of
the sound spectrum of the violin via electronic reworking.
Suchtrupp’s obvious references and deep relationship to a pathetic
”romantic” tradition (see alone the the album- and tracktitles)
are also reflected in the fantastic cover artwork, where we find
Neuschwanstein, the fabulous castle of legendary freaky bavarian
King Ludwig II. and the band in a rowing boat on the cloudy sea
where he found his mysterious death.
