It's obvious that Mr. Hans Platzgumer on this, his very first record for Munich's Disko B imprint proves his ongoing passion for individually functioning methods of production; that meaning the bucolic atmosphere of home recording, and the use of up to date electronic music devices.
"Der Separator' is a powerful statement by the Tyrolian intemational superhero: The former mastermind of indie rock group H.P. Zinker is loosening ties with musical styles he was known for in the past. Although this record of 8 instrumentals is carrying sounds that bear a resemblance to "Electro" or "Techno", it's free form is unbounded by norms.
You won't find any 4 on the floor drumpattems, retro elements or signs of minimal style, all characteristics for these days music from Den Haag, London or Detroit. Hans Platzgumefs idiosyncratic mode of composition concentrates on his musical knowledge, his long experience in the politics of playing in a band and the lonesome praxis of being a solo artist. Hans Platzgumefs stilistic openness is like humus, on which he is cultivating snippets of Electro, Trip Hop, Jazz and Pop for a unique 'powerplant'. Like the Vianna
duo of Patrick Pulsinger and ErdemTunakan he's an example of the electronic and indie rock scenes melting together. Both parties have arrived at 'free' concepts of playing music. Whereas Pulsinger/Tunakan take Techno as a starting point, Platzgumefs homebase is good old rock. Tracks and songs, melodies and sounds, beats and rhythms, both factions are working these loose ends. If you are looking for those guys, don't search 'em on downtrodden musical paths though. A balance of 'real' instruments, vocal delivery, repetitive electronics, the ability to play live, beyond the boring live p.a. experience and fucked'up 'classic' rock poseuring, this is Platzgumer's ingenuity. DerSeparator is bonafide and certified. Camouflage Techno. This record is bridging the gaps. Short BIO: , Just to remind you, in the mid eighties, Platzgumer (bom Innsbruck, Tyrol, Austria) ieleased his eponymous "Death to the CDW ecord all by himself. This debut marked his entry into the altemative rock cirGles. Subsequently his band H.P. Zinker and their early records made the rounds and they became cult stars in the US undeigmund mck scene. For a while H.P, Zinker weie operating out of New York City. Nowadays well respected labels like Matador and Thrilljockey weie then started to give H:P. Zinker an outlet. Famous indie rock stars were dedicated Platzgumer disciples. After a bunch of greatly received iecorcls, toudng back and forth the US of A and Eurnpe, Austrias second most famous man (after Amold Schwa2enegger) came back to the old wodd. H.P. Zinker broke up and Platzgumer joined Hamburg's Goldene Zitronen. On their milestone iecorcl "Economy Class" he is playing the bass among other instruments. At the same time, he started his solo prnject AURA ANTHROPICA and n:leased recorris on Hamburg's L'age D'or label. AA could be described as warm, soothing house tunes getting a punkrock treatment. Lately, Platzgumer is a Munich resident. He is still a fulltime member of Goldene Zitronen and is planning on his solo projects as well as working in a recording studio in Munich...
