Electronicat
is back again with a new album, "Voodoo Man", a spontaneous
combustion of electro and rock-n-roll, which at parts plays almost
like a deranged horror movie soundtrack.
Opening with the previous single, "Dans les Bois", the
lyrics tell a tale of being lost in the jungle where leopard-skin
clad figures taunt and tease whilst demonic leaves lead you astray.
From this we are escorted through a maniacal wonder world of dark
forces, satanic dragsters, and delirious rhythms, ('wap doowap',
'savage cat', 'the smell of danger'), only to be caught out by a
few more tender love songs ('scratch you baby bird', though this
too is quite deviant and 'in my dreams' a lynchian vocoder hymn).
A little protest, 'Non', then the sleaze and perversion hits back
with a classic electronicat track, 'rock and shuffle', and ultimately
with 'flesh and accesories' a sci-fi sex story of a TR808 drum machine
that wants to be a sado-maso queen.
The afore-mentioned track features the vocal and moogalicious talents
of Captain Comatose which paves the way for a number of guest vocalists
on the record, including Miss le Bomb (Catriona Shaw) on the wet,
wild and raucous 'Rainbow Massacre' and Max Turner on 'A lover's
suitcase', rapping about possession, love and lost luggage.
And thus, after a whirlwind tour of Electronicat's fiendish mind,
we come to the final twist in the tale (or tail...) 'Mummy Cat'
part one blasts out at you and, just as you thought it was over,
like in all good thrillers the villain gets up from death's door
and has another shot... Mummy Cat part two, the final showdown.
You can't escape your nightmares but Electronicat will show you
a good technique of dealing with them. If you can't beat 'em...
