This is Blake Baxter´s second release for Disko B after 1995´s
"The Vault".
Once again 'the prince of techno' combines the funk, the soul
and the emotions electric for his unmistakingly minimalistic
techno approach.
One
of the pioneers of Detroit´s secret techno society, Baxter
originally started making records
for Chicagos legendary DJ International label in the JaJajack'
fever era of 1985-87. Back in Detroit a
little
later, his track "When we used to play" (on KMS records) emerged
as one of the alltime classics of early Detroit Techno.
Through Blake Baxters connections to infamous Detroit figures
like Underground Resistance his music began to leave ears
and eyes wideopen in Europe´s clubcircuit, too.
The UR contingent brought him to places like Berlin´s Tresor
and an early version of Ultraschall in Munich, where his unique
Deejaying qualities were enthusiastically appreciated. Blake
Baxter definetely is one of the "unsung fathers of Detroit
Techno" (Muzik magazine). True, his style is not like your
average Euro Hardcore banging at 200 mph. Blake Baxter´s 'new-romantic'
Techno Soul is "all about humans, not computers".
If you check out his tracks on various Logic Records, Tresor
Records, or on his very own Mix Records label, you can hear
his definition of house music:
"I like my music passionate, spiritual and sexy. The voices
gives my tracks a certain personality. It´s more about the
soul".
"The H-Factor" on Munich´s Disko B label is full of sexy House
with epic vocal Samples ("N-sync") and futuristic metropolitan
love affairs ("Our Luv"). Indeed, Baxter shows off his versatility
in rough tracks ("H-Factor") and speedy sides ("N-Na-Mix")
as well.
Never is he loosing the phunky groove though. This is the
trademark of the one and only Blake Baxter. Emotions electric.
The prince is back!
