"Highway
To Disko" is the Disko B debut album of spanish electro-pioneer
ALEK STARK. His recent "we love you" 12""
(disko B 107, efa 27907-6) was already credited by the english
music press as perfect combination of ALEK STARK"s "two
passions in life: electro and sex" (NME), as sounding
like "rough sex under a strobe light" (SLEAZENATION)
and similar szenarios that seem to come up when people hear
sleazy electro-pop from madrid.
More
than 15 years ago, ALEK STARK started his career making music
under the influence of his father´s record collection
, Giorgio Moroder and the first albums of Kraftwerk, Twilight
22, Cybotron or Afrika Bambaataa. In 1997 he finished his
first album as Elektrosher, ("Mhundotronika", Boozo
Music). Also in 1997 ALEK STARK was named to select the tracklist
of the most important spanish electro-compilation called "Elektrodomesticos".
At Sonar 2001 festival, ALEK STARK finally decided to create
his own label: Star Whores Records, as an attempt to export
the most interesting elecro and techno pop projects based
in Spain. Later in 2001 Disko B received a demo of Alek Stark
and decided to licence his album "Highway to Disko".
His
debut album is built around classic electro topics like machine-music
and synthetic-sex but still manages to retain a fresh 2002
flavour. Highlights like "Lights and Sex" or "me
& me" are also featured as remixes by fellow spanish
electro-projects NEONWERK and ROBERT CALVIN. these dancefloor
smashers are supplemented by melancholic instrumentals like
"TB love" or "Nasty Friday" and make the
many facetted album deserve the judgment as "one of the
surprise packages of the year" (MUZIK on the ALEK STARK
12"").
