Blake
Baxter was and still is a pioneer of the detroit techno- and house
sound. he received in 1989 the Detroit Dance Music Award as the
best house/techno
dj
there .
but the ‘prince of techno’ is not the average ‘dj gone musician’,
he was a musician before he became a dj and his influences range
from early robert owens to depeche mode and prince not excluding
the sounds
from the underground. in 1985 (!) he released his first 12“ on chicago’s
dj international label.
from 1990 on he worked and toured with the Underground Resistance
crew, especially with jeff mills. they brought him the first time
to europe where he recorded his first tracks for Tresor and later
Logic Records.
in this time he established himself as one of the best and most
respected djs in the exploding underground techno- and housescene
of germany and the uk and after some successful 12“s on Logic he
recorded his first full length album for them. while Logic never
released it he started his own label Mix Records in detroit where
he released hard, minimalistic and experimental house.
just after his second album release on Tresor, ‘The Vault’, a cooperation
between Mix and munich’s Disko B brought eight fresh pumpin’ house
tunes.
its raunchy, raw detroit sound, ist sexy, spiritual atmosphere is
classic and unmistakable Blake Baxter.
